The Story of the Teddy Bear

It's early in the morning and as many days I am having a hard time sleeping so I decided to finally get up and write you this story. I don't know how many of you remember that Marianne loved angels. Small angels, big angels, Christmas angels, cloth angels, ceramic angels, she didn't care, she just liked being surrounded by angels -- her guardian angels. The day of Dick's accident a very interesting thing happened. After all of the emergency personel left and the ambulance had left, Jerry had to leave and take Dick's bike to the fire station for safe keeping and I was left alone by the side of the road waiting for his return. There I stood across from the horrible site of the accident all alone, crying and praying, wringing my hands and pacing back and forth. I happened to look down and there was a little pink thing, little wings laying skyward, sort of dirty and discarded. For some reason it caught my eye and I took my foot and flipped it over and through my tears and without my glasses I could see clearly on its little chest the words "My Guardian Angel". There on the road was this little dirty and at the time I thought unwanted teddy bear but it meant something to me in that instant. It meant that Marianne was watching over Dick. Jer came shortly after that and we left for the hospital and forgot about that little bear until a day or two later when Amy and I were talking and I was trying to comfort her. I told her the story of the little bear and I just knew her mom was watching over her dad. Amy wanted that bear so as it would be Jer and I had to return to Lake Wales a few days later to pick up Dick's bike and we went back to the accident site and that Little Bear was just were I found him the first time. He was again laying there with his little wings skyward waiting to be found. He has been cleaned and is now sitting in Dick's hospital room guarding over him. That day I thought that little bear was there just for Dick. In hindsight, I think that little bear was very busy that day. He was a great comfort for me too when I first saw him. P.S. Thanks Aunt Cissy - We love and miss you every day.

  2. Thanks so much for this beautiful story of Dick's "guardian angel". I also believe it was placed right there for him. I know God has His guardian angels, Marianne & Denny, watching over Dick. Thanks for writing this blog for Dick's recovery. I know it is so hard for all of you down there to physically see Dick's struggle to recover but I'm so thankful you realize how tough it is on all of us here at home to not be able to be there right now. This daily blog and all the phone calls help us to share in the grief and encouraging moments we all have. We love Dick so much and know he is a strong man that knows he is needed here on earth right now. We know he is fighting for his kids, grandkids, and all of us who love him. We are praying for Dick all day, every day and for all of you there at his bedside. Because of your calls and this blog, we know he has the best people caring for him also. Please thank all his medical "angels" from all of us. We love you all and will continue to storm heaven with prayers of full recovery for Dick. I know we have lots of prayer angels up in heaven helping us. God Bless all of you "family angels" at his bedside---please know how much we love you all! As Marianne once said, "This Hasty family" is the best! God has blessed us richly with family and good friends! Love & Hugs for Amy, Mike, Jerry, Judi, Darryl, Kathy!

  3. Mike told me this story a few days ago and I was instantly moved. Marianne was an angel lover and how awesome this story fits into the Hasty family!!! Miss you guys and love you and keep telling Dick that Carson, Brooklynn and I love him and he has many more miles of play that he has yet fulfilled so come back to us!!! Brooklynn said a new word on Saturday--Papa--it couldn't have come at a better time. Mike even put the phone to Dick's ear and he turned toward her voice--made me so happy!!! Hang in there--the prayers are surrounding you and Dick especially!!!

  4. Dear Dick and Family,
We have heard from the class of 63 that you were invloved in a cyle accident. We were very sorry to hear this, but know you are in our prayers and on our church prayer list. Tom is a Physical Theraipist and has spent many years in ICUs and rehab programs helping people in similar situations get back their lives. We know how difficult it is right now, but eachday things get a little better. These kind of injures take a long time to heal and come to their final level of improvement. Tom has seen many miracles in his 36 years as a therapist. Do not give up hope, pray, and keep talking to Dick. He hears you even when it looks like he can't. God Bless you all and here in East Texas you are being prayed for.
    Gods Blessing ,
    Tom and Marilyn Herman

  5. Dick, Family, & Friends:
We have been praying for Dick's recovery since I received word from Jan last Tuesday. The updates I've received are very encouraging, yet I know he has a long hard road in front of him. I know Dick is a strong person and he will pull through this with help from his close family and many friends. Our prayers and thoughts will continue to be with Dick and his family through this difficult time. Judi, thank you so much for creating this blog site so we can be informed of Dick's progress. God bless all!

  12. Hello all. First, thank you for keeping us all updated. As you know, I feel like you are a part of 'my' family as Marianne was more like a sister to me than a friend. On a daily basis for many years, we would talk and talk and laugh and cry about things going on in our lives. We both believed that we saw angles in the faces of our friends and family. There is no dounbt in my mind, that the little angel you found was a reminder that Marianne is here guarding, protecting and giving Dick 'angel kisses'. Amy and Mike...stay strong and know that you too are loved alot. God keep you and give you peace.

  13. Well, you can add Presbyterian prayers going up for Dick from Minnesota! Rod and I continue to keep Dick and family in our personal prayers but our church is also praying for him. Praying also for Amy and Mike, especially when they have to be away from their own young families. I loved the angel story and of course Marianne and Denny are keeping watch over Dick. Rod worked with Marianne at the A&P many years ago and loved that Hirth family. So glad you were able to find the apartment. Things fall into place in God's hands, don't they? Our love, Rod and Elaine Collins '63
