DAY TWENTY - On the Wings of Love

Today has been a very, very good day. Mike took his dad back to Illinois! Mike arrived at the hospital this morning at 8:00a to get all the paperwork in order. Dealing with insurance companies is always fun, right Mike. Once the insurance company was satisfied then the airbus company filed the schedule and the ball got rolling. We were given a time of 2:00p and it was a short morning. The Air Transport team came in and they made short work of switching his IV's and tubing's from the hospital equipment to their transport equipment. They ask him if he was in any pain and he said no, he knew exactly what was going on and was prepared for the ride. They told him that he was to give them a thumbs down if he was in any distress on the trip and when asked to show what that was he immediately showed them that he could do the thumbs down if needed. He was bundled up in his bed sheet like a little papoose and whisked away to the ambulance for his ride to the Tampa Airport. From their he and Mike took a nice ride to the Chicago Executive airport where they arrived safely at 5:50P tonight. He has earned his wings and he has definitely made this trip on wings of love from all the wonderful support of his friends and family. You can send your cards to Dick at Holy Family Medical Center, 100 N River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016. A big thanks go to the medical staff at Tampa General Hospital for all you have done.

  3. Many people believe that God only performed miracles ages ago. But we are privileged enough to see one daily right before our eyes! Dick's "baby steps" are enormous in the medical world and especially in ours!He/we could never have made it this far without all of you who have visited, held hands, talked with medical staff, made phone calls, written blogs and just plain encouraged! Thank you all, and all of you who said the many many prayers, a special thanks! None of the "Hasty clan" or Dick can begin to tell you how much it means to us all! Please keep them coming as we continue on our long yet determined journey to recovery! May God bless each and everyone of you, abundantly! Kim
PS Mike please give your Dad a kiss for me and tell him I love him bunches and bunches! XXOO

  5. Praise the Lord for this "Hasty" miracle! Dick and all of our family are so thankful for all the love, support, and especially prayers so many have offered for his recovery. Your cards, messages, and love help all of us get thru this very challenging time. Dick still has a long road to full recovery but with the blessings of God and help from family and friends, we know he'll make it! A few years ago he went on a medical mission to Haiti with my husband, Rick, and that experience changed his life---he told me a few weeks ago he wants to go again when Rick goes back. He made a big difference in the lives of the Haitian people he came in contact with. Now this new challenging experience will change his life also. God has a special plan for his life and with all our prayers, he'll experience that also. We have all been blessed by the excellent care Dick has received from medical, flight, physical therapy, etc. personnel that have cared for him in so many ways. Keep those prayers and messages coming. Maybe in a few weeks, he'll be up for visitors. Right now he needs to rest and continue to gain his strength so he can get off the respirator and get his trach out. After those major steps, he'll be getting into some "heavy" neuro physical therapy---and we all know he'll do his best! We are so proud of him!!! He is dearly loved! God's Blessings! Cheryl

  8. We have been truly blessed with all of the care & prayers for Dick. We are so thankful that he is now on Illinois soil. We find it VERY hard to believe that he has improved so much in such a short amount of time. Dick has definitely had the best of care. Thank you for all of your prayers & concern. We know that he has along road ahead of him, but he will continue to grow stronger with each passing day. Talk about "Strong Willed." That describes Dick to a "T." With continuous prayers and love, Jo & Tom
