June 11 - the final update

Well, this will probably be the final update from me. I am going to try to get Dick to put a final note out here but if you know Dick that will probably be impossible. Although, he does appreciate all those who followed the blog he is not much for writing. I just wanted to let you know that he has had his G-tube removed as of Tuesday June 9th. It was a little painful and for a little while he thought he was going to have to make a trip back to Florida to have it removed since no one here had ever seen the type that had been inserted in him. But in the end they were able to remove it successfully and he is now free of all medical apparatus and free of all memory of the accident. He is back to riding and walking up to three miles a day. He has had a long journey, as have we, but we are all thankful for such a wonderful outcome and a terrible lesson learned. Thank you for all your prayers, cards, calls, well wishes and everything else that brought him through and back home. He is that same ole Dick that we started out with on the ride in Florida on that sunny day in February.....no worse for the wear.

  3. I would also like to thank all of you that have followed the blog so faithfully. It has really made a big difference in Dick's recovery! All of our family really needed the support of all of you. Your concerns and prayers not only carried Dick thru his miracle, but also carried all our family! There were many times when we felt hopeless but by the Grace of God and all you prayer warriors, you never gave up or let us give up! I was always amazed when I would go somewhere and a stranger would ask me how my brother was. There were prayers coming from all over the United States thanks to the many prayer chains. Dick's life is truly a miracle! He had many wonderful doctors, nurses, and various medical personnel, but even they couldn't have predicted the outcome he has had! They never thought he would be back to the same person and look the same. By looking at him, you can't even tell all the trauma he has been thru. (He's still a good-looking Hasty guy!) Every time I see him, I can't help but hug him and thank God for his life! I'm sure Marianne & Denny were with him when the rest of us could not communicate with him. Our family is so blessed! If you haven't seen Dick since he's been home, stop by when you are in Morton---you'll be amazed at the power of prayer! We love him so much and again thank you all for sharing this journey with us. We know that God is not done with him yet---He has more for him to do here on earth! Praise God! You are all awesome for helping him recover! As his sister (Cheryl), I couldn't be more proud of the way he has faced these challenges and fought to get well---especially for his kids and grandkids (they are the best reason for anyone to get well!) Love, Hugs, and Peace to All! God's Blessings.
